The Note To Self project is a large-scale collaborative portrait series; portraying people in front of their mirror looking at themselves and reading a note that’s hanging on the mirror. A note meant to remind themselves of a variety of different things. This project offers a peek into people’s lives, a side we don’t often let people see.
I started the Note To Self Project to share living Philadelphia citizen's stories. Providing them with uplifting and candid reminders based off of submission pieces they've sent. The submissions consist of a paragraph or two about themselves and a photograph for the portrait. I then read what they write, try to get a real sense of who they are, and write a note for them. We exchange emails back and forth, and they give me the okay on each step of the process - sharing our stories publicly can be hard, (I do it daily and it's still a challenge), and I make sure those who participate are comfortable with each step, and that what I wrote for them expresses their truth.
Need a reminder? Want to share your story?
Let's work together!
Email me a submission: 1-2 paragraph introduction of who you are and where you are in life right now, as well as a selfie for the portrait. - blurstreetart@gmail.com
